Lucknow: Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), one of Uttar Pradesh’s premier healthcare institutions, is set to introduce six new medical departments in May. The new departments, including Pediatric Nephrology and Infectious Diseases, will bolster the institute’s ability to address specialized medical needs in the region.As part of this expansion, SGPGI will be filling 59 regular doctor positions, with interviews scheduled to begin on April 1. The institute has already received a substantial 121 applications from across the country, highlighting the high demand for these important roles.Also Read: Advanced Pediatric Centre with 565 beds inaugurated at SGPGI LucknowAccording to SGPGI Director Prof. RK Dhiman, the introduction of a Pediatric Nephrology department will fill a crucial gap in the state’s healthcare infrastructure, as no government medical institution in Uttar Pradesh currently offers a dedicated department for pediatric kidney diseases. The new Pediatric Nephrology unit will feature 20 beds, ventilators, dialysis facilities, and will also offer a three-year Doctorate of Medicine (DM) course to train specialists in this critical field.In addition to Pediatric Nephrology and Infectious Diseases, SGPGI will also launch departments in Head and Neck Surgery, Medical Oncology, Pediatric Endocrinology, and Nephrology ADC. These departments will provide comprehensive care for a wide range of conditions. With these new additions, patients from Lucknow and throughout Uttar Pradesh will no longer have to travel to Delhi or Mumbai for specialized treatment.Also Read: SGPGI Director Dr R K Dhiman in NMC Committee to Grant Recognition to New PG QualificationsAccording to Jagran English, Prof Dhiman emphasised that SGPGI aims to be among the top three medical institutes in the country for quality healthcare in the next two years. The institute is also progressing rapidly on the construction of the Advanced Pediatric Center, part of the Chief Minister’s vision, which is expected to be completed within 18 months.The institute is also working on enhancing its existing facilities. SGPGI has recently completed the construction of the Advanced Diabetic Center on schedule. The new facility will offer cutting-edge treatment options for diabetic patients.
The recruitment drive for the new departments has already generated considerable interest, with the highest number of applications received for positions in Anesthesiology, followed by Head and Neck Surgery and Infectious Diseases.
This expansion is part of the larger effort by the government to enhance advanced medical treatment facilities in Uttar Pradesh.
