Goa Medical College Gets Approval to Increase 19 seats in 5 MD, MS specialities

Goa- Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants in the state, the Goa Medical College (GMC) has received official approval to increase its Postgraduate (PG) medical seats from 31 to 50. Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced this recently. This important move is a commitment of GMC to increase medical education capacity in Goa to meet the growing demand for specialised health professionals.These 31 to 50 PG seats will be spread across five major courses, namely MS in Obstetrics & Gynecology: 6 to 8 seats, MD in Radiodiagnosis: 6 to 7 seats, MD in Pediatrics: 7 to 10 seats, MS in General Surgery: 6 to 15 seats and MD in Pharmacology: 6 to 10 seats.Also Read: GMC Amravati Gets NMC Show-cause notice over deficienciesAccording to Daijiworld report, the health minister expressed hope that the increased seats will strengthen the healthcare infrastructure of the state and provide more opportunities for aspiring medical postgraduates.Goa Medical College (GMC) is one of the oldest medical institutions in India. It was established in 1691. It is government-run and an affiliated institution of Goa University.Last year, Medical Dialogues reported that the National Medical Commission (NMC) had granted permission to increase MBBS seats to 200 at Goa Medical College for the academic year 2024-2025. Apart from this, the GMC has also received the Commission’s approval for an increase of 17 postgraduate medical seats. This includes an increase of MD Radiodiagnosis seats from six to seven, MS General Surgery seats from six to 15, an increase of MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology seats from six to eight, MD Pharmacology seats from four to six and MD Paediatrics seats from seven to 10.In 2019, 30 MBBS seats were added to the seat matrix of the medical college for students belonging to the reserved category of the economically weaker section (EWS).Also Read: NMC approval to Goa Medical College: MBBS seats increased to 200, 17 more PG medical seats in 5 specialitie
