The old Civil Hospital, which has long served the community, was rendered unsafe after the ceiling of the maternity ward collapsed multiple times between 2015 and 2016. As a result, the maternity ward of the hospital was relocated to Sector 10. In 2016, the ICU ward also suffered a ceiling collapse, and following further assessments, the public works department recommended demolishing the entire building to avoid additional accidents.
Recognizing the urgent need for a new hospital facility, the health department acquired the entire parcel of land in Civil Lines in 2021, earmarking it for the construction of the new Civil Hospital.
